Amazon has updated its Coming Soon to AWS Certification page with three new exams and certifications, with one being a specialization in big data.
The new exams are: AWS Certified Solutions Architect; AWS Certified Database; and AWS Certified Data Analytics (which was renamed from AWS Certified Big Data – Speciality.)
The beta period for the AWS Certified Analytics exam will begin on December 2, 2019, and will run until January 10, 2020. The expected date for when the exam will open to the public will be April 2020.
Amazon describes its exam in big data as “an industry-recognized credential that validates expertise working with AWS services to design, build, secure, and maintain analytics solutions.”
In a blog post published in September, Amazon gave an overview of the scope of the course and how it will benefit its students, stating:
“AWS Certification shows prospective employers that [students] have the technical skills and expertise required to perform complex data analyses using core AWS Big Data services like Amazon EMR, Amazon Redshift, Amazon QuickSight, and more. This certification validates [students] understanding of data collection, storage, processing, analysis, visualization, and security.”
The pathway for specializing in big data with AWS has the following structure.
First, students must pass the Data Analytics Fundamentals course and then the Big Data on AWS course. Next, students are encouraged to take the Big Data Readiness course and finally sit their exams. For additional learning, students can take an exam to become an AWS Certified Cloud Practioner, which would open additional career pathways.
